The path gradually rises on the southern edge of the heath. To the right is a depression in front of the forest edge. This is the former sheep swamp for the 1500 sheep of the Granau domain. Until about 1911 this was still a pond fed by a spring, 2m deep and surrounded by reed beds. To Granauer Berg the section becomes the Hohlweg and from the 133m high "summit" there is a beautiful view from Halle.
