Simonskall is a district of Hürtgenwald and is located directly on the former Westwall, the Allied defensive line along the western border of the German Reich. There are some reminders here. Of course the monument in place. But also the many bunker facilities that you can still find in the countryside between the bushes or the Kall Trail, on the former tanks instead of bikes rolled. Today Simonskall is a recognized resort, has a few pensions and restaurants and ends here the trails of the mountain bike park Hürtgenwald.

Hiking

The house was built in 1651 by Johann Wilden, the son-in-law of the then important smelter Simon Kremer, from whom the place Simonskall takes its name. In earlier years the house served as a residence for the owners of the nearby ironworks. Between 1919 and 1921 the Junkerhaus was the place of residence and work for four Cologne artists, the "Progressives in the New Objectivity", who had formed similarly to the artist community in Worbswede.

Simonskall got its name after the founding of this ironworks in the Kalltal by the founder Simon Kremer in 1617.
In 1816 the ironworks was finally shut down for economic reasons. Today the "Haus des Gastes" is housed there. eifel.de/go/sehenswertes-detail/simonskall.html
