In the age of industrialization, the public parks were created in Europe. In the Ruhr area mainly for steel workers and miners and their families. The parks were often cut into an existing forest. The main features were usually a sports facility (arena), ponds, animal presentations, often with native wild animals and lounge areas with decorative beds.
This is how today's Südpark in Lünen Süd was created in 1923. The client was the mine operator Robert Müser from the industrial dynasty Müser, whose father ran several mines.
