At the foot of the 2317 m high Weißhorn, it forms the Bletterbach gorge, which is also referred to as the "Grand Canyon of South Tyrol". The gorge was formed about 15,000 years ago during the Ice Age, is approximately 8 km long and 400 m deep. It is known for the numerous fossil finds and the diverse rock layers of the Dolomites.
