A chapel in Hahn was first mentioned in 1261. This chapel was already dedicated to Mary, Mother of God. In 1280, Johann von Frankenberg and his wife donated their tithes of land, meadows and forests to the chapel. At the same time, the abbot of the Kornelimünster Imperial Abbey transferred a courtyard to the chapel so that a monk from the monastery could live on site and provide pastoral care there. Until the imperial abbey was dissolved in 1795, monks from Kornelimünster looked after the Hahn chapel community.
