The View of Boathouse Row – Martin Luther King Jr. Drive loop offers a quintessential Philadelphia cycling experience, tracing the scenic Schuylkill River. You'll pedal past the iconic Boathouse Row, with its charming Victorian structures, and enjoy views of the Philadelphia Museum of Art and Fairmount Water Works. The route is mostly flat and well-paved, though some sections of the MLK Drive Trail might have minor bumps from tree roots, adding a touch of character to this moderate 34.6-mile (55.7 km) ride.

For an optimal experience, aim to cycle this loop on a weekend between April and October. During these months, Martin Luther King Jr. Drive is closed to cars from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., transforming it into a safe, car-free haven for cyclists. This makes the 3-hour journey, with its 1332 feet (406 metres) of elevation gain, even more enjoyable and accessible for a wide range of riders.

This loop is an integral part of the larger Schuylkill River Trail system, recognized as a top urban trail in America, and winds through Fairmount Park, one of the largest urban parks in the U.S. The historic Boathouse Row itself is a National Historic Landmark, making this route not just a great workout, but also a journey through Philadelphia's rich history and natural beauty.
