The Hachenfels is very interesting in terms of natural history; because it has flora and fauna of great importance.
The impressive rock made of melaphyr (boundary layer of the Unterrotlegen), which rises steeply directly on Federal Road 41, is the westernmost place of growth for the rare and geographically particularly important grape saxifrage community (Saxifraga paniculata community).
On the south and southwest flank of the rock, large areas of mugwort and pearl grass (Artemisio; Melica ciliate), fringes of rock cinquefoil (Potentilla rupestris), and bushes of cotoneaster and privet (Pruno-Ligustretum; Cotoneaster) and broad-leaved orchid grow
