Seggau Castle is situated on a wooded hill above the town of Leibnitz and offers a wide view into the Sulm Valley and across the Mur plain to Slovenia. Parts of the complex were used by the Archbishops of Salzburg in the 12th century as a mission and administrative station for the colonization of Styria. Today, Seggau Castle houses a modern congress and seminar center, a hotel, a 300-year-old wine cellar, and a castle tavern.

Schloss Seggau is more than a castle: Like a small town, it lies on a gentle hill in the middle of the South Styrian wine region. Hotel Schloss Seggau has been known as a destination for excursions for decades. The most impressive rooms in the castle are the Prince's Chambers. The over 300-year-old Bishop's Wine Cellar is among the oldest and largest in the country.
