The quarry was in operation from 1902 to 1914. The parlor sandstone was dismantled in order to use it as building material. He became known for his findings of fossils that were found in the sandstone itself as well as in the clay pitches in between. Above all, fossils of reptiles, especially dinosaurs and prehistoric crocodiles, as well as amphibians were found. No other quarry in Keuper has such a wealth of finds. They go back to about 220 million years before our time.
