Hiking

The 35.40-meter Klagetorturm on the Kurpromenade is one of the few remaining gate towers in Thuringia. The walk-in castle tower with the adjoining BUND natural and educational garden are also worth a visit. From this garden you can reach another round tower over a section of the wall at its original height. A signposted circular route leads around the old town along the city wall.

The old town is surrounded by the largely preserved city wall.
It was built in 1365 after the city was expanded and originally included 24 defensive towers and seven gates.
16 of these towers have been preserved, as well as the Klagetor.
The ramparts have been partially converted into promenades, parks and gardens.
