Hidden in the forest on the Heilsberg hill above Gottmadingen lie the few preserved remains of the walls of the former hilltop castle. The complex was probably built in the 13th century and was first mentioned in a document in 1303. After several destructions and reconstructions, the castle was finally destroyed in 1635 during the Thirty Years' War. Today, only individual sections of walls remain, telling of their long history among the trees.
