From 1883 to 1972, the Falzziegelwerke Carl Ludowici mined large clay deposits south of Jockgrim. A landfill was planned in the abandoned clay pits on the edge of the forest, but this was prevented.
The Alte Tongruben, once used for brick production, have developed into valuable refuges for amphibians and reptiles.
