In the slate area around Mayen and the East Eifel there are slate tunnels everywhere. Some of these were used as emergency exits for the actual factory tunnels. Today the tunnels are almost all closed. In Bendisberg, very close to this tour to the St. Jost Chapel, there is a visitor mine. There you can officially enter the underworld.
