Hiking

The "Schmale Aue" is a typical Heidebach. The clear, cool water, shaded by alders, is populated by trout and brook lamprey, among others. Take a stroll along the stream and put your feet in the cool water - a refreshing summer picnic is wonderful here. If you follow the path towards the street, you will come across another "natural wonder" - a red beech and a fir tree have joined together to form a twin tree, known in the region as the "married couple" and immortalized on the Nindorf coat of arms.

Hiking

Waters such as the "Schmale Aue" are of great importance for nature conservation today and are specially protected in certain sections by the EU's Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive as so-called FFH areas. Rare animals like the brook lamprey live here. Lampreys look like eels, but they are not fish, but so-called cyclostomes. They lack bones, ribs and jaws. With a bit of luck you can see them pulling up the creek from the bridge in spring.
