Beautifully located lake, which can also be surrounded. The surrounding mountains are impressively reflected in the water.

Embark on the Klahhane Ridge Trail to Lake Angeles, a moderate hike that offers a journey through varied scenery. You will start in a lush, shaded forest, feeling the cool air as you ascend. As you climb, the terrain shifts to a drier environment, marked by mosses and rock formations. The main reward is reaching Lake Angeles, a beautiful teardrop-shaped body of water with emerald hues, tucked into a glacial cirque. This route spans 6.9 miles (11.1 km) out and back, involving a steady elevation gain of 1585 feet (483 metres). Plan for about 3 hours and 49 minutes to complete this rewarding experience. From the lake, you can take in wide views of Klahhane Ridge and Mount Angeles.

To begin your hike, head to the Lake Angeles Trailhead, which is conveniently located about a 20-minute drive from Port Angeles. Always check current trail conditions before you go, especially if you plan to visit in the early season. During this time, you might encounter steep snow slopes above Lake Angeles. These conditions could require specialized gear like an ice axe and knowledge of self-arrest techniques. Planning ahead ensures a safer and more enjoyable trip.

This trail is a highlight within Olympic National Park, known for its dramatic landscape changes. On clear days, the views extend beyond the immediate peaks to include the vast Olympic Mountains and even the Strait of Juan de Fuca. The unique geology of the glacial cirque surrounding Lake Angeles makes it a distinctive natural feature. It is a great option if you are looking for a solid workout combined with impressive natural beauty.
