St. Lambertus Basilica - Bechtheim🚴♂️ As you ride through the center of Bechtheim, past the market square, the old, historic building cannot be missed, and you can also refill your water supply here….🚴♂️ The basilica, consecrated to St. Lambert of Liège (635 - 700), dates back to the 11th century and was formerly owned by the Augustinian canons of St. Aegidius in Liège. Special features of the three-aisled hall church include the choir stage and the barrel-vaulted crypt, as well as 14th-century wall paintings. In the Middle Ages, it was a pilgrimage church, and from 1684 to 1910, the building was used as a simultaneous church. It is one of the most important Romanesque village churches in Rheinhessen. https://www.rheinhessen.de/a-romanische-basilika-lambertuskirche

Beautifully laid out square, the fish market fountain is reminiscent of the place where freshly farmed fish were sold in the past.

Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed on the premises (as expected). So could only look at the basilica from the gate, but looked good so far. 🤷♀️

As a memorial to the many dead, such memorials or war memorials are still very important today. "Now, Lord, let your servant go in peace, as you said." However, the people who are commemorated here did not divorce in peace, but became victims of war and tyranny. Many of the places and monuments that you come across along the way are evidence of the horrors of war and tyranny, which is still relevant and relevant today. They all have two essential functions, anew for each generation: -1- Commemorate and remember the victims -2- Remind to keep the peace

The heavy Kelterstein (3820 kg) that was found after a fire in the opposite mansion of Baron von der Leyen-Uexküll is on the fish market. The weighing house reminds us that the grape carts and the "Wutz" were weighed here.
