The Alte Allern are partly stagnant, partly slow-flowing waters with abundant vegetation on the banks and in the water. The ground is sandy-muddy with slightly cloudy water. The Alte Allern are used by hikers, nature lovers, and anglers. The main fish species today are eel, pike, perch, carp, tench, whitefish, and noble crayfish. From May to October, paddling on the Alte Aller is permitted with consideration for nature compatibility. Only paddle boats (kayak, Canadian canoe, and canoe) are allowed. Lake Oyter is a great place to swim in the summer. As a child, I went there almost every weekend.

Via Pfarrstraße, you reach St. Laurentius Church, which was probably built on a former pagan place of worship. First documented in 1257, this building is the oldest in the city. The church served as a place of refuge in times of war and fire. Originally built as a Romanesque fieldstone building (split boulders can be found on the tower and south wall), new windows were added in the late Gothic period (14th century). An extension to the east and the addition of two chapels to the north and south also date back to the Gothic period. The existing flat ceiling was replaced by a ribbed vault. The Mandelsloh and Clüver Chapels contain old gravestones as well as two marble sarcophagi belonging to an old Achim noble family. The clock in the church tower, first mentioned in writing in 1574, is now electronically controlled.
