Champtoceaux Suspended Mill

Highlight • River

Place called "le Cul du Moulin" at the foot of Champtoceaux, near the pier of the boat "La Luce" and the nautical base.
Very nice place for a stopover. Several picnic tables, toilets and a fountain which often saved me in summer :-)

The place is also notable for its hanged mill. Classified as a historical monument, this 13th century building was first presented as a river toll before being rehabilitated as a watermill. Under the pointed arches were suspended water wheels which drove millstones upstairs, hence the name hanging mill. This mill is contemporary with the medieval city of which there are vestiges on the heights.

Beau Rivage Riverside Path

Highlight • Trail

Very nice to drive single trail between Oudon and Les Thibaudières. The EV6 actually leads from Oudon to the other side of the Loire, but this route is the nicer one. Also easy to ride with bicycles with luggage.

Château d'Ancenis

Highlight • Castle

Beautiful small fortified castle, unfortunately wedged between the two main roads of the city and therefore not highlighted too much.

As always, we went to a bar for breakfast coffee and a croissant from the boulangerie. This time not to a tabac bar, but instead in a great place - opposite the château!
