The village church in Groß Plasten is an impressive example of early 20th-century Neo-Baroque architecture. It was built between 1898 and 1901 and consecrated on December 1, 1901. The architect was Franz Schwechten, known as the "Kaiser's favorite architect," who also designed the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in Berlin – hence the church in Groß Plasten is sometimes referred to as its "little sister."

The Groß Plasten church is quite young (around 1900) and was the first "Renaissance building" with a dome in Mecklenburg. It was built because, due to a dispute between the landowners, the people of Groß Plasten were not allowed to enter the church in Klein Plasten.

Cyclists are not welcome here. Although the cycle path runs along the edge of the site, there is a locked gate and an additional barrier.
