At Hagenstraße 48 you will find one of the few synagogues that have been preserved in Mecklenburg. Inaugurated by the Jewish community in 1828, over the decades it had become in dire need of renovation. In 2005, the city of Hagenow began to renovate the synagogue ensemble. The "Old Synagogue" cultural center has now developed into a special place for concerts, festive events and exhibitions. https://www.hagenow.de/willkommene-gaeste/geschichte.html

Since the reopening in 2007, the Old Synagogue Hagenow is part of the museum of the Jewish community existing at that time. The surviving community buildings, consisting of synagogue, schoolhouse and car showers, are unique in Mecklenburg. The building remained intact after the destruction of the interior of the synagogue on the night of the Pogrom in 1938 and was extensively restored between 2004 and 2009. In the front building, the current Hanna-Opinions-Haus, since November 9, 2010, the permanent exhibition "traces of Jewish life in Hagenow and West Mecklenburg" can be seen. The Old Synagogue serves a variety of cultural purposes and special exhibitions. Source: https://www.hagenow.m-vp.de/alte-synagoge-hagenow/

On the town square forecourt are three life-sized bronze figures, a pillar of sandstone and a drinking fountain, this is the Fiek'n fountain (Fiek'n = Low German for Sophie). It was built in 2007 and represents fictional characters from the song "Fru Püttelkow ut Hagenow", which are overheard by a cobbler boy. Until 1809, the former city fountain actually stood here.
