only received a stone ring wall around 1350. A second wall was saved between the two towns. Here the city wall of the northern part of the town served as a so-called inner wall. Both walls protected the citizens from external threats, but also had a dividing function. In 1667, the two halves of the town were united by decree at the behest of the Swedish rulers. The southern gate and parts of the city wall were torn down. The walls were demolished at the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th centuries. They had lost their function due to the advent of firearms. Some fragments from the 13th and 14th centuries can still be seen today.

The first church building, dating from around the year 1000, was made of natural stone and was possibly the bishop's private chapel. The current late Romanesque building, with a single nave, choir and nave made of brick and the sandstone tower to the west, was built in the first quarter of the 13th century for a canonry founded by Bishop Iso in 1220.

Mausoleum: Built in 1873 according to plans by the architect Conrad Wilhelm Hase (planner of the Marienburg, Nordstemmen and the Domgymnasium Verden) in the neo-Gothic style. The building was only a mausoleum (burial site) for the v.d. Wisch and v. Heimbruch families for a few decades: later it served as a garage or lion cage, restored 1986 - 1989, today an exhibition room. Schlossparkverein Etelsen e.V.

The mausoleum at the end of the circular walk is not to be missed! Decades ago it served as an elephant house (1959-1965). At that time, the Etelser Zoo attracted many visitors from the surrounding area, including Bremen.
