De Moeren bij Achtmaal is a historic estate and nature reserve in the municipality of Zundert, North Brabant. Location & Type: An extensive nature reserve consisting of forests, meadows, and fields, situated near the Belgian border. History: It was originally a raised bog area where peat was extracted on a large scale until the 18th century. The name 'Moeren' refers directly to this marshy peatland. Nature & Management: Together with the adjacent estates of Wallsteijn and Oude Buisse Heide, it forms a continuous nature reserve. Parts of this are managed by Natuurmonumenten.
