The "Walterbachtal" was declared a nature reserve in 1987. It encompasses a valley up to 100 meters wide, with the approximately three-meter-wide Walterbach stream, as well as adjacent slopes predominantly covered with species-rich beech and oak forests. The lowland is largely covered by pastures, which provide a valuable habitat for numerous animal and plant species. Of particular importance are the springs and spring-fed areas on the slopes, with their abundant spring-flowering plants. Brown trout and bullheads live in the stream itself. At the same time, the stream valley provides a habitat for amphibians and serves as a breeding and resting habitat for numerous bird species. The trail begins directly in the lovely Walterbachtal. After the path through the forest, the landscape opens up, offering impressive views of the Süntel Valley.
