The railway line from Medemblik to Hoorn, opened in 1887, is unique because it has been preserved in its original state, complete with structures such as bridges and station buildings. Only a few stations have disappeared over time; of the ten in total, eight still exist.

The drawbridge, which you usually ignore...the route always goes over the dike.

Radboud Castle is located directly on the harbor of Medemblik and was built around 1288 by order of Floris V as a fortress to keep the region under control. Two wings, several towers and parts of the contours of the original castle are still visible, giving you a good idea of the medieval layout. An interesting stop during your walk, especially for those interested in the history of West Friesland and the role of castles in the landscape.

On 12 March 1943 at 19:12 the Wellington bomber took off from Disforth airfield in England. The five-man crew had the goal of bombing the Krupps factories in the German city of Essen. The target was not reached. On the way there the bomber was shot down by the German night fighter of Leutnant Oskar Köstler. The plane flew on while burning and crashed at 21:58, outside the Wieringermeerpolder, among other places on the land of the Kranenburg family. All crew members were able to save themselves with their parachutes. They landed scattered in the Wieringermeerpolder and in West Friesland and were captured by the occupying forces. Part of the plane ended up in a ditch, 100 meters behind the farm of the Best family. This farm was located on the Westfriese Dijk, approximately 1.8 kilometers west of Lambertschaag. The land is now a nature reserve.
