The ponds in Klosterwald Loccum are part of the historical monastery landscape and are located in Klosterwald Loccum, a forest area near the Loccum monastery. These ponds are part of a system of ditches, canals, ponds, and streams that were created in the Middle Ages and served the monastery complex. They shape the landscape and are part of the Kleiner Klosterlandschaftsweg trail, which leads to these mysterious and enchanting places.

The Meerbruchswiesen on Lake Steinhude are an important resting and breeding area for more than 280 bird species, including white-tailed eagles, ospreys, cranes, garganeys, lapwings, great egrets and various species of geese and ducks. With a little patience, you can also observe smew and goosanders, ruffs, common terns, red and black kites and numerous other waders and waterfowl on the rewetted wetlands, shallow water zones and at the pools.

The forest area of Loccum Monastery (approximately 650 hectares) is located approximately ten kilometers west of Lake Steinhude and comprises six sub-areas (forest sites) of varying sizes. The majority are located in Lower Saxony (Nienburg district), while a smaller portion belongs to North Rhine-Westphalia (Minden-Lübbecke district). The forest largely falls under the category of "historically old forest sites." Alternating forest landscapes and a well-developed, park-like trail system make the monastery forest an experience for every visitor. Source: https://www.kloster-loccum.de/das-kloster/klosterforst

The former Cistercian monastery has lost none of its charm since its founding. The Loccum Preachers' Seminary of the Evangelical Lutheran Church has a long tradition within the overall complex of Loccum Monastery. The redesign of the outdoor areas and a reinterpretation of Prior's Garden are important components of the comprehensive structural renovation and new construction. Prior's Garden will be open to the public during the day. Source: https://www.wgk-planung.de/kloster-loccum-endspurt-fuer-die-fertigstellung-der-gaerten/

Luccaburg Castle was an early medieval lowland castle near Loccum. The tower hill castle of the Counts of Lucca, dating from the 11th/12th century, is recognizable as a massive, round earthen mound. Parts of the 2 m wide circular wall are preserved. A Count Burchard of Lucca is mentioned in documents around 1113 and 1130. His daughter, Beatrice of Lucca, married Count Wilbrand of Hallermund, who thus became his successor and heir. In 1163, he donated the surrounding land to Cistercian monks for the establishment of Loccum Abbey. Luccaburg Castle can only be reached on foot or by bike.
