Unfortunately, the nearby motorway is a bit distracting, as it creates a constant noise level.

A historic, thatched sheepfold on the northeastern shore is a reminder of the former agricultural use of the heathland. It is a striking highlight of the lake.

Please note the general swimming ban in the lake. In the summer of 2024, there were also toxic blue-green algae in the lake, which can be dangerous, especially for dogs. Pay attention to current reports and take care of yourself and your four-legged friends. (Source:https://www.oldenburg-tourismus.de/a-tweelbaeker-see)

Lake with history The lake, which is up to 18 meters deep and covers around 32 hectares, was created during the construction of the motorway between 1976 and 1978. Pretty heathland areas have been preserved around the body of water. An old sheepfold on the northeastern shore is a reminder of their former use. Walkers, joggers, and cyclists actively enjoy nature on the four-kilometer-long circular trail. On the east bank, there is a beach volleyball court, and on the west bank, a mooring for sailboats used by the youth of the Oldenburger Yachtclub. In addition, numerous cycle routes lead to this charming body of water with its shady resting places. The Tweelbäker See therefore offers many opportunities for sports and relaxation, even though it is not a swimming lake and swimming is not allowed here. Those who wish can still venture onto the water during the summer months: a stand-up paddling station is open on the northern shore. When exactly? Their homepage provides up-to-date information. The sculpture park in Hude is somewhat hidden between Hude and Vielstedt. Coming from Hude, turn left at the Peter Ustinov School, just past the Hude stream. There are two other entrances, but only one is signposted; the turn-off from Vielstedt is easy to miss. There are many sculptures and artworks to see here. I would like to see some explanatory signs. A visit is definitely worthwhile!
