The poet Hermann Allmers, born in Rechtenfleth in 1821, had this monument to Charlemagne erected here because he is convinced that Charlemagne crossed the Weser with his army at this point, coming from Brake. It was inaugurated in 1899.

rights fleth. There he is now on the dyke near Rechtenfleth - Charlemagne. Under a stone canopy flanked by two Romanesque columns, in the center a colorful mosaic of the ruler with sword and cross. Why is it there and who had it built there? The answer is found barely a hundred paces from the scene of the crime. There is the poet's home of Hermann Allmers. The son of the wealthy dyke sworn officer Wierich Allmers created a wondrous kingdom of poets there in a highly individual manner. The house, garden and interiors are intended as a monument and educational center for rural youth. The bold nucleus of an adult education center. The idea of the memorial can be seen as part of this attempt at education. Source: Weser courier
