St. James Parish Church Number on the map: 13 (Miltenberg) St. James Church has existed since Miltenberg's early days in the 13th century, but has been frequently rebuilt and expanded. The last major interior renovation, including a redesign of the church interior, was completed in 2004. Still preserved are, for example, the 14th-century columns of the nave, the Three Kings group from around 1400, the Backoffen Cross from around 1500, the alabaster altarpiece from 1624, and the pulpit by Zacharias Juncker from 1635. Miltenberg…👍 This is one of our favorite RV parking spots, we like to go on hikes and long bike rides along the Main or through the beautiful vineyards from there… The old town of Miltenberg is also beautiful - we always enjoy going to the wine festival 🚲Greetings from the Wetterau… Simone & Michael🙋🏻🙋♂️

The building in its present form is a three-aisled pseudo-basilica with galleries, a three-sided apse, a hipped slate roof, and plastered masonry. The core of the church is Gothic. When Miltenberg received its town charter in the 13th century, the first church was built here. Towards the end of the 14th century, this was expanded into a larger, three-aisled structure. When this was declared dilapidated in 1782, plans for a new building were drawn up. However, the reconstruction to its current appearance did not take place until the 19th century: The chancel flanking towers with their onion domes and lanterns were built between 1829 and 1831, the nave was remodeled in 1830 and 1886, and the chancel in 1862. During a major renovation in 2003/2004, the liturgical space was redesigned. The floor level was raised, and the steps in the chancel were altered. As part of this process, the altar was moved closer to the pews. A new altar platform was created for this purpose. The tabernacle was placed to the side in a historic sacrament house.
