Beiva) is located at an altitude of almost 1800 m above sea level on the Julier road. The name Bivio means crossroads and refers to its location at the foot of the Julier and Septimer passes. Bivio was partly settled from the Bergell valley. The Italian-speaking inhabitants maintained lively contact with the German-speaking Avers, with the Romance-speaking neighbours down the valley and, via the Julier, with the Engadin. The St. Gallus Church was first mentioned in a document in 1219 as an independent parish with its own priest. However, the parish and the first church building are likely to be much older. The church building has likely been preserved in its current form as a single-nave Romanesque structure from the construction period: Simple church nave and choir with equally simple ribless cross vaults. The church was newly consecrated on December 3, 1466, after major construction projects, by the Chur auxiliary bishop Johannes Nells of the Minorite Order. A further consecration took place in 1518.
