Barbury Castle is an impressive Iron Age hill fort nestled in the beautiful Marlborough Downs of Wiltshire. Built over 2,500 years ago, it features massive double earthen ramparts that once protected an ancient tribal village. Today, it’s a wonderfully peaceful spot, perfect for a relaxing stroll. You can wander along the ancient Ridgeway path, take in the sweeping panoramic views of the countryside, and watch red kites soaring overhead. It’s history at its most laid-back.

This was a really lovely ride, well put together and uses the areas bridleways and byeways to best advantage. We rode it in August during a drought, so very dry conditions but beautiful area to explore.

Avebury is one of the largest prehistoric stone circles in the world. Unlike many other stone monuments, here you can walk among the massive stones and experience the special atmosphere up close. The site was created about 4,500 years ago and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage.

Great views down the valley and Uffington white horse (white horse hill). Too wet to take proper photos alas. You will have a better experience on a clear day, I hope.
