Francis I, husband and co-regent of Maria Theresa, had bought an area on the west side of the palace park from the municipality of Hietzing in 1753, where he had a Dutch Garden laid out. Adrian van Steckhoven and his assistant Richard van der Schot erected a large greenhouse in the north and four glasshouses in the west of the area, which was divided into three sections: The "Flower Garden" with exotic plants in the north, south of it the vegetable garden (where espaliered fruit trees were also grown), and at the very south an orchard.

In 1883, Ziehrer took up the post of bandmaster of the famous k.u.k. Infantry Regiment Hoch- und Deutschmeister No. 4, after Heinrich Strobl, who was appointed in the same year, died unexpectedly. With this, he had now made his breakthrough in Vienna too, especially as the Strauss era was drawing to a close. Carl Michael Ziehrer now gave concerts throughout Europe and also in the USA for the World's Fair in Chicago.

The Fairnesszone in Vienna – primarily located in the area of the 5th district (Margareten) around Reinprechtsdorfer Straße – is an exciting example of how street art is used for district development and social cohesion.
