Great stop on our ride. We done cafes and ice cream and also topped up our water bottles. Staff is very friendly and helpful and knowledgeable about the history spot. Don’t miss it! I must visit on foot and properly discover such amazing and significant place.

A very pretty shallow valley that has a fun transecting roadway with great visibility (in the shown direction).

The Queen Inn in Dummer, great atmosphere, lovely food, and if you don’t manage to stop here, you would’ve missed out on one of Hampshire’s traditional, character pubs.

Dummer, a beautiful village with thatched houses. Discovered by chance because there is no rest stop on the Autobahn. You have to take the next exit for a break.

Dummer is an excellent destination for touring cycling due to its expansive Lake Dümmer, the second largest lake in Lower Saxony, and the surrounding Dümmer Nature Park. The region features diverse ecosystems, including reedbeds, meadows, and swamp forests, with predominantly flat and accessible terrain. The Dümmerniederung nature reserve and moorland landscapes provide a rich natural environment for cycling, often with quiet roads, especially in the mornings.
Yes, the region is well-known for its circular routes. A highlight is the 27-kilometer Dümmer-Rund-Tour, which offers varied landscapes around the lake. Many other routes also provide circular options, allowing you to start and end at the same point.
Many cycling routes around Lake Dümmer are described as easy, with mostly paved surfaces, making them suitable for all skill levels, including beginners and families. For example, the route View from Garlic Lane – The Queen Inn, Dummer loop from Dummer is an easy 8.7 km option.
Cyclists can enjoy diverse scenery, including views of Lake Dümmer, boathouses, and art installations along the eastern shore. The routes also pass through reedbeds, tall herbaceous meadows, sedge beds, and surrounding alder-ash and alder swamp forests, offering a rich natural experience. The Dümmerniederung nature reserve provides opportunities for birdwatching.
Beyond the natural beauty, you can explore several attractions. These include cultural sites like the Dümmer Museum in Lembruch and the Lembruch Heimathaus, or the 18th-century Hünnefeld Castle. Educational experiences are offered at the “Moorwelten” exhibition and the German Wind Power Museum. Nearby highlights include The Vyne and St. Michael's Church, North Waltham.
While many routes are easy, Dummer also offers more challenging options. For instance, the Woodland Trail – Grammarsham Lane loop from Farleigh Wallop is a difficult 28.7 km trail, and the Railway Crossing in the Fields – Jolly Olly's Coffee Shop loop from Farleigh Wallop is another difficult 26.9 km route, both offering more demanding terrain.
The spring and autumn seasons are particularly rewarding for cycling in Dummer, especially for birdwatching, as up to 70,000 cranes stop here during migration. Summer offers pleasant weather for lake activities, while winter can transform the lake into an ice-skating paradise during stable cold periods, though cycling conditions may vary.

Routes that venture slightly away from the immediate lake shore, such as the Blackdam Ponds – The Street Bakeshop loop from Farleigh Wallop, might also provide a more secluded ride.
