August 9, 2026, Victoria Bridge

Victoria Bridge is one of Brisbane’s most historic river crossings, connecting the bustling city centre at Queen Street to the cultural hub of South Brisbane. First built as a wooden structure in 1865, its replacement was famously swept away in the Great Flood of 1893. Today’s concrete version, built in 1969, was completely transformed in 2021 into a car-free “green bridge”. Reserved entirely for buses, pedestrians, and cyclists, it offers a peaceful, scenic stroll across the water with fantastic views of the city skyline.

South Bank Parklands combines riverfront paths, landscaped gardens, and public spaces across a large stretch of the city’s foreshore. The area includes the Streets Beach lagoon, shaded walkways like the Arbour, and open lawns with views across to the CBD. It connects directly into the riverside path network and forms one of the main public spaces along the river.

This long sandy beach is a great pick on a summer day for sunbathing, swimming, and surfing, and it has lifeguards on duty with a nearby park. It is a well-patrolled area due to dangerous riptides and rough, open-ocean waves. Keep in mind that swimmers should always stay between the red and yellow flags for their safety. The sand is white, soft, and clean, making walks along the shore enjoyable.

The view from here is great at any time of day, but if you can be here for sunrise you'll be treated to something truly special.

The Neville Bonner Bridge is a pedestrian bridge spanning the Brisbane River. This modern bridge connects the Queen's Wharf Brisbane entertainment precinct and the South Bank riverfront, having only been here since 2024. It was named after Neville Bonner, the first Aboriginal Australian to be in the federal parliament. It is a wide, paved bridge, totally car-free, and looks amazing at night as well, all lit up.

Goodwill Bridge is a pedestrian and cycle bridge spanning the Brisbane River between South Bank and Gardens Point. From the centre of the bridge, you get open views along the river toward the city skyline, with high-rise towers reflecting off the water below. The bridge sits slightly elevated above river level, giving you a clear view of boats passing beneath and the CBD rising beyond. It’s a popular crossing, so keep left and stay aware of cyclists as you pause to take in the view.

The Gold Coast Oceanway is a paved coastal path that runs parallel to the beach, linking suburbs along the shoreline. This section near Surfers Paradise follows the edge of the sand, offering uninterrupted ocean views with the skyline rising behind you. The wide, sealed path is shared by walkers, runners and cyclists, so keep left and stay aware of faster traffic. Shade is limited along exposed stretches, making early morning or late afternoon a more comfortable time to walk.

Surfers Paradise Beach is a broad stretch of sand that faces directly onto the Coral Sea, with consistent surf and wide coastal views. The beach runs alongside the high-rise skyline, creating one of the Gold Coast’s most recognisable scenes. Swimming is safest between the red and yellow flags where lifeguards patrol. Conditions can change with swell and wind, and rips are present at times.
