February 5, 2026, Old Krasnopolyanskoye Highway

At the time of my visit (spring 2022), the passage was open from the Kepsh side. From the Monastery side, the passage was locked, but a nearby trail across the cliff was accessible.

Ascent through the village of Nizhnyaya Shilovka. Drive in from Yermolovka, there can be quite a lot of traffic there. But literally from the sign at the entrance to Nizhnyaya Shilovka, traffic practically disappears. The road is good asphalt, there are both sharp uphill sections and gentle ones. In some places, cows walk along the road, and dogs hang out nearby (none of which tried to bark or bite me, but maybe it was just luck). There are plenty of shops along the road. At the end of the ascent, you can continue to climb towards Yermolovka, but there will not be the best road there.

Great place for cycling or walking. The views are gorgeous, but be careful, rockfalls happen here.
