We enter the forest again, the Zschopau River accompanies us for a moment, and then we climb step by step. Continuing along the path, we look again over the village of Scharfenstein and across to the castle. The sky has darkened again, the clouds are gray, and the sun gleams through. There's something very special about this atmosphere. Here's our entire tour https://youtu.be/yO9ZGM6zOe8

The ground is damp from the rain, and we walk through the beautiful landscape, now climbing steeply up the alpine path toward Weber-Hans-Felsen. From here, we look across the valley to the castle, towering above the town. The Zschopau River roars loudly. The path leads us through a beautiful clearing before we plunge back into the forest. Today's tour takes us to Scharfenstein, a district of Drebach. From the parking lot, looking up, we see the castle on the hillside. Dark clouds, we walk through the village in a drizzle, see a multitude of marked hiking trails at the crossroads, and our path leads us up the mountain. After a short, steep section, we reach the castle, built around 1250, it belonged to the Lords of Waldenburg. A small gap in the clouds allows the castle to briefly shine in the sunlight. From above, with a first glimpse of the valley, we pass through the Renaissance portal. We enter the courtyard and look around. The keep, built on a raised rock, appears imposing. The courtyard is full of children; today it is a family and adventure castle. We buy tickets. Via the terrace, we reach the keep entrance. The narrow 17-meter climb gives us a beautiful view down into the valley and the town, surrounded by hills. The atmosphere is mystical, the clouds are low, and fog sometimes rises between the trees. We descend again, heading underground to the cistern. The smell is musty, damp, and overgrown with moss; it is 36.1 meters deep. Now we enter the former residential wing and go up to the museum. Here's the full tour https://youtu.be/yO9ZGM6zOe8

The Protestant St. Martin's Church is one of Zschopau's landmarks. Its origins can be traced back to 1494. The late Gothic perimeter walls from this period are still visible in the choir area. The building subsequently suffered several city fires. St. Martin's Church's current Baroque appearance dates largely from 1751, although the tower was not completed until 1798. It was designed by Siegert, a master carpenter from Schneeberg. The interior features the third-largest surviving Baroque organ in Saxony, created by Jacob Oertel from Grünhain. Equally remarkable is the neoclassical altar from 1858. https://www.schloss-wildeck.de/historischer-stadtrundgang
