The well-preserved ring rampart is among the largest and most significant archaeological sites in the Augsburg district. The geological structure consists of marly sands, which are overlain by glacial till. This till is partly consolidated and appears here as Nagelfluh. The irregularly ring-shaped fortification, approximately 600 meters in circumference, was probably used as a refuge castle during the time of the Hungarian invasions and presumably dates back to the Bronze Age.

This forest service hut was built by the royal district forester August Ritter von Ganghofer. It serves the forest personnel as a work and meeting room, as well as a shelter, and for hunting guests as a meeting and support point.

August Ganghofer (1827–1900) was a significant German forestry official and the father of the writer Ludwig Ganghofer. From 1879, he managed the Royal Bavarian Forestry Administration and initiated the founding of the Bavarian State Institute for Forestry and Forest Management (LWF) in Freising in 1881. Career: From 1859 to 1873, he managed the forestry district in Welden, where he had the August Ganghofer Avenue, named after him today, planted. He was elevated to the personal nobility in 1887. Works: His standard work "Der praktische Holzrechner" (The Practical Wood Calculator) was published in 1872 and went through seven editions. Memorial Site: In Welden stands the August-Ganghofer-Hütte, the former forester's official hut, which is now part of the Ludwig-Ganghofer-Rundwanderweg (Ludwig Ganghofer Circular Hiking Trail).

The Schneeburg near Welden (District of Augsburg, Bavaria) is an early medieval ring rampart that served as a refuge castle in the 9th to 10th centuries to defend against Hungarian invasions. The site is located about 1.5 km south of Welden on a spur above the Laugnatal valley. It was an important defensive structure that functioned as a protective castle for the population and a troop assembly point. The fortification consisted of wood-earth constructions and ramparts, with the eastern side showing typical steps for defense against Magyar horsemen. Today, the earthworks and ditches are preserved as an archaeological monument, with the Ludwig-Ganghofer-Rundwanderweg circular hiking trail leading through the area.
