The church is medieval, built in the mid-15th century and was restored in 1882. It had previously been restored in 1753, 1772 and 1832. However, mining subsidence caused the tower to separate from the chancel and the nave, and in 1896 the church was virtually rebuilt at a cost of £2,000. The font pre-dates the church, being 14th century.

It has seen a number of improvements in recent years. The children’s play area has undergone a major redevelopment with separate areas for younger children and teenagers created. A new multi-use games area has also been introduced adjacent to the skate park. The park also has a popular bowling green and traditional park pavilion together with a network of footpaths. The park is the venue for a number of large scale community events in the summer months and is used regularly by youth groups and schools for various activities. There are proposals to upgrade the sports pavilion in 2011 together with the introduction of new lighting and the resurfacing of some of the paths.
