June 25, 2026, Highgate Men's Bathing Pond – Hampstead Heath

The regulars are sometimes there early in the morning, before the rest of the park wakes up. The water is cold, dark and fed by the underground springs of the River Fleet. It is open all year round. In summer, it is best to make a booking through the City of London Corporation: https://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/things-to-do/green-spaces/hampstead-heath/where-to-go-at-hampstead-heath/highgate-mens-pond.

The HL is located exactly here, i.e. ON the bridge. It doesn't look great when crossing it. To enjoy the great view you see in the photos, you have to walk around the pond once. Today (in February) I was ankle-deep in mud. On the other hand, two dozen squirrels danced merrily around me. Worthwhile detour, but with limitations at least in winter

Regent's Canal behind King's Cross. The newly developed King's Cross area is now a haven for cyclists. A decent amount of infrastructure and the excellent cafes and shops at Coal Drops Yard/Granary Square make it a brilliant place to start and end a ride.

The Mixed Pond is a natural bathing pond and one of London's best open air swimming spots. The water is deep and opaque and suitable for competent swimmers only.
