Often white-tailed eagles fly above you. Or curlews accompany you with their distinctive calls and you find cotton grass by the ponds.

The path along the cliff is well-marked throughout. There are one or two places where you have to scramble and use your hands. I walked it at low tide without any problems.

A parking lot that is heavily used by mobile homes. The outstanding "feature" is a futuristic toilet facility with a transparent window through which you can look at the fantastic landscape while you are doing your business. If you don't like that, you can switch the window to opaque at the touch of a button. :-) You can easily camp in front of and below the parking lot. The place can be very windy, though. There are also tent options on the other side of the road above on the slope if you want to avoid the car area. There is of course water in the toilet. As is often the case, the tap is so tiny that it is only possible to fill bottles to a limited extent. There are seating areas (concrete) in the parking lot where you can comfortably cook your own dinner. Overall, a nice place to spend the night.

We recommend climbing Matind from the south, as you have a wonderful view of Høyvika Beach for long stretches of the hike and you can make the hike a circular route with a detour to the beach.

The lighthouse is the northernmost in Nordland county and the fourth highest in all of Norway. The lighthouse was put into operation in 1859 after a need for it was felt due to fishing and the increasing shipping traffic in the area. In 1999, the building was listed as a monument and the lighthouse became a tourist attraction, as it can also be climbed for 100 NOK.

From Baugtua it is a nice and easy climb over Nonstind to Måtinden. You get a nice panoramic view as a reward before you either start the way back or walk towards Bleik. We chose the latter, even though it meant 2.5 miles (4 km) on the road between the end and the start of the walk. Halfway we were spontaneously offered a lift by a super friendly local.
