The lake covers, surrounded by the inner dike, 90 ha which expands to 150 ha, surrounded by an outer dike, during high water levels, in the territory of Linkhout and Schulen. The lake is fed by water originating from the Demer. In the same valley also flow the Mangelbeek, the Zwarte Beek, the Herk, the Gete, the Velpe and the Begijnenbeek.
