Historic Castle Mill Schorisse – Witness to the Past A beautiful piece of living heritage along the Molenbeek. Right on your route through Schorisse, you will pass this photogenic brick Farmhouse with Castle Mill. The history of this grain watermill goes way back; the oldest mention dates from 1456. At that time, the mill served the nearby, but now completely disappeared, water castle of the Lords of Schorisse. The absolute eye-catcher from the path is the huge metal overshot water wheel with an impressive diameter of 4.85 meters, hanging quietly in the stream. Until recently, the Vanderdonckt family – who have cherished the mill for five generations – still ground grain here daily. Today, it is a protected monument and one of the most beautiful, most atmospheric resting places during your tour through the hilly landscape of Maarkedal.
