St. Andrew's Church is the parish church of the St. Andrew's parish in the city of Antwerp. This parish roughly coincides with the fourth district or St. Andrew's Quarter and was known at the time as the parish of misery. Construction of the church was begun by the Augustinian brothers in the early 16th century. Hendrik Conscience was one of the newborns baptized in this church. Since November 25, 2007, part of the church has been converted and opened as a church museum. In the early 16th century, Augustinian observants of the Saxon Congregation (also known as Augustinian hermits or barefooters) came from Enkhuizen to Antwerp. Citizens Joost Hoens and Marc Mussche donated a house and land to them on Ridderstraat. There they built a chapel, dedicated to the Holy Trinity in 1513. The Chapter of Our Lady resisted and took legal action, but surrendered after the Augustinians received support from the city council, which even agreed to finance the construction of the monastery. An agreement was reached in 1514. This agreement reveals that the Augustinians numbered eight, led by Prior Johannes van Mechelen. The current St. Andrew's Church is the monastery church they began building shortly thereafter.

The Sint-Annatunnel – or Pedestrian Tunnel – is a real historical gem with its authentic wooden escalators. Walk or cycle along this eye-catcher from the city centre to the Left Bank, where you have a beautiful view of the Antwerp skyline. Historical explanation: As early as 1874, the people of Antwerp agreed on a connection between the left and right banks of the city. There were many plans to build a bridge over the Scheldt, but they were always cancelled. Mainly because a bridge would hinder shipping traffic too much. Ultimately, it took until 1931 before the decision was made in favour of a tunnel. To this day, most parts of the entrance buildings and the tunnel are still original, from the warning signs to the fences. Source: https://visit.antwerpen.be/de-voetgangerstunnel
