They had to suffer and die just because they were different... In November 1940, the National Socialists set up a "gypsy camp" on a farm in Lackenbach, where Roma and Sinti were interned under inhumane conditions. Of the approximately 4,000 people held there, only 300 to 400 survived the camp's liberation in 1945.

The former Jewish community of Lackenbach is only a few kilometers from Kobersdorf. Lackenbach, where Jewish settlement is documented as early as the middle of the 16th century. After the Jews were expelled from Vienna and also from Lackenbach in 1670, the Jews were allowed to settle here again 16 years later. In 1729, there were already 45 Jewish families from Lackenbach among the house owners, and the number of children was 171. In 1869, 770 Jews lived in Lackenbach, which was 62% of the total population. In 1934, in contrast to most other Jewish communities, 21% of the population in Lackenbach, namely 346, still lived there. This high proportion of Jews fed the somewhat humorous oral tradition that Lackenbach consisted exclusively of Jewish residents.
