Spaccanapoli is the main street that crosses the historic center of Naples, following the ancient lower decumanus of the Greco-Roman city. The route extends for about two kilometers, connecting the Spanish Quarters to Forcella. The itinerary winds along a straight line composed of several streets, including via Pasquale Scura, via Maddaloni, via Benedetto Croce, and via San Biagio dei Librai. Along the route, you encounter the main historical hubs of the city: Piazza del Gesù Nuovo, the Complex of Santa Chiara, Piazza San Domenico Maggiore, and the intersection with via San Gregorio Armeno. The road surface is entirely made of basolato (lava stone slabs). The route is flat and pedestrian for most of its length, but characterized by a very high density of pedestrian traffic and commercial activities.

The Porta San Gennaro (in English: Saint Januarius Gate) is the oldest gate in the city of Naples, already mentioned in documents dating back to 928, when fear of the Saracens, who had already destroyed the city of Taranto, had spread. It was the only access point for those coming from the north of the city. The name Porta San Gennaro comes from the name of the only road leading to the catacombs of the saint of the same name.
