After a wild route, at the entrance to the Magadino plain, the Ticino is channeled into embankments that turn it into a banal canal until the delta with which it flows into Lake Maggiore. It exits the lake near Sesto Calende (VA), at an altitude of 193 meters above sea level, to continue its course until beyond Pavia where, in the locality of Ponte della Becca, it flows into the Po river. The total length is 248 kilometers, 110 of which affect the territory of the eponymous Parks. Geomorphologically, the Ticino valley is characterized by a shape called "cassette": the river has indeed carved out a valley in all the environments it crosses (morainic hills, plateaus, and plains) rather narrow in the upper part and wider in the central part. Following the course of its riverbed, one can notice that the difference in altitude between the plain and the riverbed decreases as one moves away from Lake Maggiore.

Cascina Portalupa is one of the most beautiful and historic farmhouses in the whole of Lomellina. The characteristic name of the farmhouse is supposed to derive either from the presence of packs of wolves (being the place wooded and rich in fauna) or from a nickname.

Nice single track in the woods, better to do it when it hasn't rained because it can be muddy at times. The best period is in spring.
