The Prati del Ceppo in Lomazzo is a natural and functional area located within the Lura Park, inaugurated in 2019 to combine hydraulic safety with public use. The creation of the Lura stream detention areas was designed to safeguard the hydraulic health of the villages downstream from Lomazzo and involved residents of the surrounding municipalities in a truly participatory process from the design stage. A volume (340,000 m3) of areas available for flood management was created. These new environments, created in conjunction with the hydraulic works to detain the Lura waters, immediately attracted wild animals, contributing to the park's biodiversity. Birds, due to their color, variety, and ease of observation, are certainly the most eye-catching group. Now, in fact, it's very easy for anyone, walking along the cycle paths created as part of the project, to observe herons, ducks, and other species that frequent the new wetlands.
