It is located on the historic town square. The Ludwigslinde (Ludwig's Linden tree) was planted here in 1892 in the presence of Prince Ludwig of Bavaria. Thüngen itself was first documented in 788.

St. George's Church in Thüngen is an Evangelical Lutheran parish church with a long history closely linked to the noble family of the Barons von Thüngen. For centuries, the church was the spiritual center of the Barons von Thüngen's rule, who converted to Protestantism during the Reformation. A unique feature is the active ecumenical spirit in the community. Due to declining attendance at the Catholic church on Wendelberg, Catholic services have also been held in the Evangelical St. George's Church for several years.
