The Sanctuary of the Madonna del Frassino in Oneta, located in the Seriana Valley, is a Catholic place of worship with a fascinating history. According to tradition, the Marian miracle occurred on July 2, 1512, when the Madonna appeared to a young blind shepherdess, Pierina Carobbio, near an ash tree. During the apparition, the Madonna healed the girl and asked her to build a church near a spring of water that miraculously began to flow2. The miraculous spring was rediscovered and restored in 2010, bringing to light a significant element of the history of the sanctuary. Today, the small chapel in front of the altar of the sanctuary contains a reproduction of the miraculous event2. The sanctuary is also known for the works of art that decorate it, including frescoes, sculptures and paintings by renowned artists such as Gerolamo da Santa Croce and Antonio Cifrondi. It is a place of great devotion and artistic beauty, which continues to attract pilgrims and visitors.
