Let's be honest: of all the beautiful places on Elba, this one shouldn't be mentioned anywhere... It's barely a view.

This path itself is clear in my opinion, but there's a bit of a slippery hazard, especially further down, as it's quite dusty. Therefore, suitable footwear is recommended. However, on the connecting section to the upper beginning of the path, i.e., coming from the GTE Sud (Caprile) above, the route is somewhat unclear, and you can even get lost for a moment if you don't pay attention to the small and large cairn markers (I've included a photo). If you keep an eye on your phone/GPS, it's not a problem anyway.

Ivan Lucini's tip is completely wrong, Marciano Marina is down by the sea, and some of the photos are also wrong.

Stairs, stairs, stairs... a very beautiful mountain village, in an equally beautiful setting with interesting architecture and great views of the mountains and coast.

A rather small and hidden holiday resort, Case Cardella can be reached via paths and a country road from Marciana Marina. It is located in the northwest of the island of Elba, between Marciana and Sant'Andrea. From here you have splendid views of the coast.

The Sanctuary of the Madonna del Monte, built in a particularly charming natural setting, dates back to the 16th century. It has frescoes attributed to Sodoma also dating back to the 16th century. Opposite the façade, there is an exedra dating back to 1690, from which flows very pure water from Mount Capanne. Take the opportunity to fill your water bottles! Picnic tables are also available in front of the church. The hermitage, right next to the church, dates back to the 16th century.

Generally, dogs are welcome on most hiking trails in Marciana, especially in the natural areas and forests. However, it's always advisable to keep them on a leash, particularly in protected areas like the Tuscan Archipelago National Park, to protect local wildlife and ensure a pleasant experience for all hikers. Summer can be very hot, especially for mountain ascents, while winter offers cooler temperatures but some trails might be affected by rain.
Marciana is accessible by local bus services that connect it to other towns on Elba Island, including Marciana Marina and Portoferraio. Parking is available in and around the village of Marciana, though spaces can be limited, especially during peak season. There are designated parking areas near the historic center. For trailheads further afield, small parking spots might be available, but it's often recommended to park in the main village and access trails from there or use public transport where possible.
To avoid crowds, especially during peak season, consider exploring trails that are not directly leading to the Monte Capanne summit or popular coastal spots.
