Tips from the Community

Stenio Melani
July 9, 2026, Fiume Loncon

The Loncon is an important 46.23 km long resurgence river that flows between Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Veneto, specifically between the province of Pordenone and the Metropolitan City of Venice. The watercourse has a hydrographic peculiarity: despite its significant overall length, it formally takes the name "Loncon" only in its final stretch. It originates in Friuli in the municipality of Casarsa della Delizia as Rio Lin (other historical sources link its waters to the Roggia Lestans, fed by the Cosa stream in the Carnic Prealps). It crosses several territories such as San Vito al Tagliamento and Chions, changing its name to Roggia del Lin and Rio Lin. It enters Venetian territory in the municipality of Pramaggiore, where it finally takes the definitive name of Loncon. From here it flows south, skirting Annone Veneto, Portogruaro, San Stino di Livenza, and Concordia Sagittaria. The history of the river is closely linked to the milling activity in the Veneto-Friuli plain.
